Monument Symbolizing the First Step on to Hokkaido

Higashihama landing pier  (Old Pier) was the gateway to Hokkaido Hakodate since the Meiji era . In 1968  to celebrate 100 years of starting of  Hokkaido, monument was built near here. The motif of the monument are composed of anchor and brown bear.
